The live match screen, sped up: Brookvale Rovers v Hillcrest Athletic, 50 minutes, 7 a side. Each circle is a player. The number is minutes played, and the ring fills as they reach a fair share: 30 of the 50 minutes.

Full time. All ten outfield players played exactly 30 minutes, and Noah kept goal for all 50.

How it works

Two minutes before kick-off is all it takes. After that, Squad Playtime tells you who’s next on and keeps the minutes even.

  1. 1

Tap each player as they arrive. Anyone running late goes down as on the way, and you can bring them in when they turn up.

  2. 2

It picks a starting lineup from your players’ best positions and suggests a few plans. Choose fewer changes or more even minutes, or try your own.

  3. 3

It runs the clock, tells you who’s next on and where they play, and counts every minute. After full time, the minutes go into the season record.

Pick a sub strategy. See every player’s minutes before kick-off.

Squad Playtime suggests a few ways to run your subs. Tap one to see the whole rotation and the game time each player can expect.

The sub plan choices: Recommended, 2 changes and half time, 32 to 36 minutes each; Most even, 6 changes, 33 to 34 minutes each; Try your own

Choose how you sub

Recommended keeps changes few and minutes close. Most even changes more often to bring everyone level. Or try your own: say how often and how many at a time.

The recommended rotation: who comes on and off at 15 minutes, half time and 44 minutes, and a timeline of each player’s expected minutes, 32 to 36 each with Noah in goal for 50

Expected game time for every player

See who comes on and off at each change, and how many minutes each player can expect. If someone’s late or gets hurt, it re-plans on the spot.

It copes when match day doesn’t go to plan

Real matches never run to the script. Squad Playtime re-plans on the spot, so the minutes still come out fair.

A player turns up late

Mark them as arrived and the plan adjusts, so they still get their fair share. No maths on the touchline.

Someone gets hurt

Tap the injured player. Squad Playtime suggests the best replacement and re-plans the rest of the match.

Four coaches, one match

Everyone sees the same clock and lineup live. One coach runs the clock, any coach can log a goal, and it’s never counted twice.

No signal at the pitch

It keeps working offline and catches up as soon as you’re back in range.

Your club, your colours

Upload your crest and the app takes on your club’s colours automatically.

5, 7, 9 or 11 a side

Pick your format and formation. Players keep their best and alternate positions as they move up the age groups.

Fair, and you can show it.

Every player’s minutes are saved across the season, along with your results against every team you play. When a parent asks, you have the answer.

The season stats screen after 14 matches: minutes and goals for every player, with lower totals for a player who missed four matches and one who was injured for three, and every outfield player averaging 29 to 32 minutes per match played

Learn what works, match by match.

Every goal is saved with the players who were on the pitch. As the season builds, it shows which combinations click and how you’ve done against each team.

The Lineups tab: back pairs that concede least and the strongest threes by goal difference per 25 minutes, and which combinations are still gathering data

Your strongest combinations

See which pairs let in the fewest goals at the back, and which threes do best together. If a combination hasn’t played enough minutes yet, it says it’s still gathering data.

Head-to-head: Hillcrest Athletic, played 1, won 3 to 2, Finn 2 and Leo scored; Ashgrove Wanderers, played 1, drew 2 all

Every opponent, remembered

Before kick-off, see how it went last time: the score and who scored. Spelling the team’s name differently doesn’t split the record.

Questions coaches ask

What is Squad Playtime?

Squad Playtime is a free sub planner for youth football. It plans fair game time for every player, runs the match clock and counts each player’s minutes, right on your phone.

How does it work out the subs?

You tick off who’s here and it picks a starting lineup from each player’s best positions. It suggests a few sub plans and shows the minutes each player can expect. During the match it tells you who’s on next and where, and re-plans when someone arrives late or gets injured.

Which formats does it support?

5, 7, 9 and 11 a side, with 23 formations and halves of any length. Football comes first. Gaelic games, rugby, hockey and basketball are planned.

Can more than one coach use it at a match?

Yes. A team’s admins and up to three coaches share the team. One coach runs the clock and everyone sees the same match live, including goals logged from any phone.

What stats does it keep?

Minutes, goals and assists for every player across the season, how combinations of players do together, and your record against each opponent.

What does it store about players?

First name and the initial of their surname, and nothing else about them: no photos, no dates of birth and no contact details. Only the team’s coaches can see them.

Do I need to download it from an app store?

No. Open your invite link and add Squad Playtime to your home screen on iPhone or Android. It opens like any other app.

How much does it cost?

Squad Playtime is free for grassroots clubs and their coaches.

How do I get Squad Playtime for my team?

It’s invitation only while clubs join a few at a time. Ask a club that uses it for an invite, or join the waitlist on this page.

Free

Free for grassroots clubs and their coaches.

First names only

Players are saved by first name and initial. Nothing else about them is stored.

No tracking

Nothing about players is ever used for advertising, and nothing follows you around the web. It’s a tool for coaches, not a feed.
